Founded in 2017, Joshua G. Youngner Architect is a Coastal Georgia based studio specializing in residential homes and resort projects. The firm’s designs incorporate classical forms with contemporary ways of living.

Hand Sketches

Architectural sketches serve as the foundation of the design journey—bridging the gap between conceptual thinking and built reality. These drawings are more than visual representations; they are tools for exploration, communication, and refinement.

Each sketch captures the evolving dialogue between form, function, and site. With a hand-drawn quality that invites both spontaneity and precision, sketches allow the architect to investigate massing, proportion, rhythm, and spatial relationships early in the process. They help define key architectural elements—such as façade composition, material language, and the balance between openness and enclosure—long before construction begins.

Crucially, sketches are not just for the architect—they are a means of storytelling. They translate complex ideas into clear, expressive visuals that clients, collaborators, and builders can engage with. Whether it’s a quick gestural layout or a fully rendered elevation, these drawings are where the character and intention of a design first take shape.

In this body of work, the sketches reveal a thoughtful approach to scale, context, and detail—laying the groundwork for architecture that feels both grounded and aspirational.

A person in a gray suit draws architectural details of a house on tracing paper placed over a blueprint. They use a black pen and wear a silver watch. The sketch features window grids and building outlines on a bright desk.
Sunlight casts striped shadows from blinds onto a wall and desk. The desk holds a computer monitor, rolled papers, and writing tools. Below, a pile of large rolled-up papers and folders rests by a window, suggesting a workspace for design or architecture.

Digital Perspectives

Through digital perspectives, we study proportions, materials, lighting, and spatial relationships in real-time. Whether it’s the quiet rhythm of millwork, the sculptural profile of a custom range hood, or the interplay of textures—like the brick backsplash against paneled cabinetry—these images allow us to visualize and adjust the balance of elements before construction begins.  In the kitchen rendering shown here, for example, careful attention is paid to ceiling detailing, cabinet design, and natural light—each element reinforcing a coherent, livable aesthetic.

“There is a quiet sophistication to this practice—a grace in the way ideas are drawn, discussed, and ultimately realized.”

Renderings

Renderings are a powerful part of our architectural design process—where vision begins to crystallize into space. These digital drawings serve as more than polished visuals; they are an essential tool for testing ideas, refining details, and communicating intent at every stage of the project.

Our process emphasizes clarity and precision. Renderings bridge the conceptual and the technical, providing a shared visual language that connects client, architect, and builder. They invite feedback, support decision-making, and bring focus to craftsmanship and materiality.

Ultimately, our renderings are not just about presentation; they are about process. They help shape the architecture from the inside out, ensuring the spaces we create are as thoughtful in experience as they are in form.
